Marshall's First MAC Swim Meet Ends in Defeat

Ypsilanti, Mich. ? Marshall University women?s swimming and diving team received a rough welcome to the Mid-American Conference today by losing both ends of a three-way meet to host Eastern Michigan (198-35) and to Ohio (202-33). The Bobcats were able to hold on to defeat the Eagles by a final score of 131-112.

The Thundering Herd was able to only register five top six finishes on the afternoon. The 200-yard medley relay team of Milla Kuurto (Lohja, Finland), Liisa Raty (Espoo, Finland), Emily Moe (Rockford, Mich.) and Michele Knicely (Bridgeport, W. Va.) earned a fourth place finish with a time of 1:52.78.

Kuurto wrapped up fourth place on two other occasions, in the 50-yard freestyle (24.82) and as a member of the 400-yard freestyle relay team along with Erika Nilsson (Haninge, Sweden), Raty and Knicely.

Diver Casey Mulholland (Stone Mountain, Ga.), coming off her first collegiate victories on Friday at Wright State, collected fifth place in 3-meter diving with a score of 182.55.

Marshall (1-3, 0-2 MAC) will travel to Berea, Ohio, on Nov. 16 to face Baldwin-Wallace, Hiram College and Alma College.
