Marshall Women Take Out Shepherd College, 74-59
12/30/2002
Huntington, W.Va.--The Marshall women?s basketball team improved to 4-5 on the season with a 74-59 win over the Shepherd College Rams Monday night in the Henderson Center. The Thundering Herd were led by Ida Dotson, who scored a career high 26 points.
?It wasn?t a pretty game, but we got a great performance from Ida, which carried us through the game,? said head coach Royce Chadwick. ?It was good to have a win, but we?re not excited on how we get it.?
Marshall struggled in their first game back since the holiday break, committing 25 turnovers on the night. Shepherd held tight throughout early in the first half until a 9-2 run by the Herd put the visiting Rams away.
The Herd, who usually control the boards and came into the game leading the MAC in rebounding margin (+7.3), struggled against the Rams. MU outrebounded Shepherd by only two on the night.
Sikeetha Shepard-Hall, playing her first game on the Henderson Center floor, also added 11 points for Marshall. Catie Knable led the Herd on the boards with seven.
Shepherd had three players in double figures, led by Ashley Van Norden and Cassie Murray, who each poured in 11 points. Lindsay Stewart chipped in ten points for the visitors.
Marshall returns to action on Thursday night with a game at Kentucky. That game starts at 5 p.m. in the Rupp Arena, the Kentucky women?s team?s only game in the facility this season. The Kentucky men follow the women with a contest against Alcorn State.
