HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Ronald Blackshear scored a game-high 29 points, 24 of which came on three point shots, to lead Marshall University to an 82-74 win in Mid-American Conference basketball action Thursday.

?I thought we played great and played hard. Miami is one of the best, if not the best, defensive team in our league and they very well could be back in the championship again this year,? Marshall head coach Greg White said. ?We shot the ball very well from three and Ronald Blackshear will do that. He can shoot and score, period.?

Blackshear?s eight of 12 three point shooting bolstered an impressive three point shooting night for the Thundering Herd. Marshall connected on nine of 11 three?s in the first half (81.8%) to grab a slim 38-36 lead at the half. Marshall went on to shoot 66.7% from three point range (12 of 18) in the ball game.

Marshall senior Tamar Slay added 13 points, five rebounds, five assists, three steals, and a block in the win, while senior J.R. VanHoose netted 14 points and seven rebounds. Junior Monty Wright and senior Latece Williams contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Miami (11-13, 8-5 MAC) was led by Doug Davis? 15 points. The RedHawks? Eugene Seals recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Thundering Herd never trailed in the second half, however Miami kept it close. The RedHawks? Danny Horace made a layup with 1:28 to cut Marshall?s lead to two at 73-71 only to see Marshall hit on nine of 10 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

Marshall (12-11, 6-7 MAC) has one day to prepare for MAC East rival Ohio (14-8, 9-5 MAC). The Thundering Herd will host the Bobcats Saturday at 4:00 p.m. The game will be carried live nationally by ESPN with Matt Devlin handiling play by play and Bob Valvano serving as analyst.
