Marshall Basketball Hosts Akron Tuesday

Marshall's men's basketball team will host Akron in a Mid-American Conference East Division contest Tuesday. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.

Any student 18 or below may purchase a general admission ticket for only $2 with a paying adult as part of MU's Take a Kid to the Game promotion. Adult GA's are $7. One student ticket per adult ticket. Available game day only.

The Zips (8-13 overall, 4-6 MAC) enter the game playing their best basketball of the season. Akron has won four straight after starting the season 4-13. The Zips own victories over Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Ohio and Buffalo over that stretch.

The Zips are led by Rashon Brown and Andy Hipsher. Brown leads the team in scoring with 15.1 points per game, while Hipsher adds 13 points and a team-high 6.1 rebounds per game.

Marshall (10-10, 4-6) is coming off of a 94-78 loss at Ohio and has lost six of its last nine games.

Sophomore shooting guard Ronald Blackshear has emerged as the Thundering Herd?s top scoring threat as of late. Last week he scored 33 points in the win over Ball State and 30 points in the loss at Ohio to up his season average to 19.6 points per game. He is also MU?s fourth leading rebounder - pulling down 5.5 rebounds per game.
Tamar Slay is averaging 18.4 points per game, while J.R. VanHoose contributes 15.1 points and a team-high 10.8 rebounds per game.
