BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (AP) - Len Matela scored 23 points and Brent Klassen had 16 on 8-of-8 shooting as Bowling Green beat Marshall 83-60 Saturday.
Klassen's effort set a school record for field goal peercentage in a game breaking the old mark of Skip Howard who made 10 of 11 against Eastern Michigan in 1974.
Matela also had 12 rebounds for his 29th double-double and shot 11-for-12 from the free-throw line.
The Falcons (18-5, 8-4 Mid-American Conference) shot 67 percent in the first half, compared with 38 percent for Marshall, to build a 47-31 halftime lead. Bowling Green finished with a seson-best 61.2 percent field-goal shooting effort and hit 90 percent (18-of-20) on free throws.
Monty Wright scored 16 points to lead Marshall (11-11, 5-7). Ronald Blackshear added 12 points and J.R. VanHoose had 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Thundering Herd, good for the 51st double-double of his career.
The Falcons tied it at 8-8 six minutes into the game and never trailed again. They built the lead to 23-12 before Wright made two baskets and a 3-pointer in less than two minutes to cut the lead to six, but Bowling Green answered with a 9-0 run.
Bowling Green closed the half on a 10-1 run, including five free throws by Matela, who made all eight foul shots in the first half.
The Thundering Herd never got closer than 16 in the second half.
