Tennis Defeats Virginia Tech 6-1

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University Tennis team defeated Virginia Tech today, 6-1, at the Marshall University Tennis Courts.

The Herd jumped out to a 1-0 lead by winning all three doubles matches and claiming the doubles point. At No. 1 doubles, Anna Mitina and Lille Nzudie defeated Ines Khelifi and Meredith Vincent 8-2. At the No. 2 spot, Marshall's No. 60 ranked doubles team of Jessica Johnson and Ashley Kroh topped Kristen Stubbs ansd Zdenka Videnova 9-8. Alice Sukner and Danielle Hock took the No. 3 match from Ginger Loudermilk and Carolyn Kramer with a 8-5 decision.

The Herd took a 2-0 lead as Sukner defeated Vincent 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 3 position. Next off the court was Joelle Good who defeated Lowdermilk 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 singles. Marshall clinched the match with a No. 2 singles victory from Mitina. Mitina defeated Khelifi in three sets 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. At No. 6 singles Kroh defeated Bridget Bruner 1-6, 6-4, 6-4. And the last match to come off the court was No. 4 singles when Nzudie defeated Kramer, 6-3, 6-7, 6-4.

Stubbs provided the lone Virginia Tech point, as she won 6-2, 6-2 over Johnson at number one singles.

The Herd is now 14-7 overall and 4-1 in MAC competition.

The next match up for Marshall will be this weekend when they travel to Ball State and Bowling Green.
