Marshall Tennis Steals Win from Western Michigan

The Marshall University women's tennis team improved their overall record to 17-7 and the MAC record to 7-1 today with a, 5-2 , win over Western Michigan. The Broncos fall to 12-10 overall and 6-2 in the MAC.

In today's match, The Herd jumped out to a 1-0 lead by taking all three doubles matches to claim the valuable doubles point. The duo of Anna Mitina and Lille Nzudie claimed the No. 1 spot by defeating Frederika Girsang and Melanie Remynse, 8-5. Marshall's 60th-ranked Jessica Johnson and Ashley Kroh disposed of Western's Larissa Chinwah and Brookley Crews, 8-0, at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, Danielle Hock and Alice Sukner recorded an 8-1 upset win over Nikki Douglass and Valeria Stoilova.

In singles action, Marshall got on the board first with a win at No. 3 singles as Sukner defeated Remynse, 6-4, 6-0. Johnson was next off court No. 1 when she defeated Chinwah, 6-1, 6-2. Kroh defeated Stephanie Mueller, 6-0, 6-4 at No. 6 singles to clinch the match for the Herd. At the No. 4 spot Nzudie defeated Douglass, 6-2, 4-6, 1-2 ret.

Marshall had lossed at No. 2 singles and No. 5 singles.

The Herd will continue the homestand tomorrow when it takes on Northern Illinois at 1:00 at the Marshall University tennis courts. If rain the match will be moved indoors to the Huntington Tennis Club.
