Johnson Named As MAC Tennis Player of The Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio- Marshall University sophomore Jessica Johnson has been named as the Mid-American Conference Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Johnson went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles last week against Western Michigan and Northern Illinois. Overall she is 14-9 and 6-2 in MAC singles and in doubles is 20-3 and 8-0 in MAC play. She and doubles partner Ashley Kroh were ranked in the top 60 in doubles. They are the only MAC duo who have been ranked. This year, Johnson has defeated four people who currently have a ITA ranking and she has also defeated two that were ranked when she beat them.
Up next, Marshall (18-7, 8-1 MAC) will be at the conference tournament in Muncie, Ind., held this weekend. Last season the Herd was defeated in the final round, 4-3 by Eastern Michigan.
As the number two seed, Marshall will have a first round bye and not play until Friday at 2pm. The Herd will play the winner of Thursday's Bowling Green/Buffalo match.
