The New Jersey Nets Sign Tamar Slay
7/31/2002
East Rutherford, NJ - The New Jersey Nets have signed forward Tamar Slay, Nets President/General Manager Rod Thorn announced Tuesday.
Slay was the team?s second round draft choice (54th overall) in the 2002 NBA Draft.
As per club policy, terms of the contract were not released.
? We are pleased to add Tamar to our roster,? said Thorn. ? He has good size and an impressive intermediate game and should fit in well with our style of play.?
Slay, a 6-6 forward out of Marshall, averaged 14 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.3 steals and shot 53% from the floor and a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line in six games in the recent Shaw?s Summer League.
Slay, a two-time NABC all-district selection, averaged 18.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per game his senior year for the Thundering Herd, finishing his four-year career as the sixth leading scorer in school history with 1,792 points.
Slay concluded his career at Marshall as the school?s all-time leader in three point field goals made (251) and attempted (650).
