Kent State Hands Marshall First MAC Loss Of The Season
1/13/2003
Kent, Ohio--The Kent State Golden Flashes (7-7, 2-1 MAC) took advantage of a cold-shooting Marshall team in route to a 65-44 win over the Thundering Herd Monday night on the campus of Kent State University.
Marshall opened the game with a fast-break jumper by Ida Dotson off the opening tip to take their one and only lead of the game. The Golden Flashes promptly went on a 9-2 run to quickly put the game out of reach for the visiting Herd.
For the game, Marshall shot only 31.4% (16-51) from the floor, while Kent State was 46.8% (22-47) from the field, and a scorching 60% in the first half. The Herd outrebounded the Golden Flashes, 36-29, and 21 to 13 on the offensive glass. However, MU could not convert on the opportunities, making only 16 field goals.
?We did a terrible job shooting the ball tonight, and that?s a tribute to Kent State?s defense,? said head coach Royce Chadwick. ?We tried to crank up our enthusiasm in the second half, but we got too far behind. They outplayed us in all facets of the game.?
Chadwick stressed that his team has to score points after getting the offensive rebounds.
?We?ve got to finish. You?ve got to have heart to get the offensive rebound. We just didn?t have the skill to put the ball in the basket tonight.?
Marshall continues its road swing with a game Wednesday night against Akron at the James A. Rhodes Arena. That game tips off at 7 p.m.
