Akron Hands Marshall 59-49 Loss

Akron, Ohio--The Akron Zips defeated the Marshall Thundering Herd, 59-49, Wednesday night at the James A. Rhodes Arena. Akron improves to 2-13, 1-3 in the Mid-American Conference, while Marshall falls to 5-8, 1-2 in the MAC.
The Zips knocked the Herd out early with a 11-4 run in the first half to make the score 19-12. Marshall closed the Akron lead to five in the waning minutes, but the Zips made crucial baskets with time winding down to get their first Mid-American Conference win of the season.
The Herd could not overcome 24 turnovers and a 35.2% from the floor (19-54). The usually dominant rebounding performance from MU was also absent, as the Zips outrebounded Marshall 40-33.
Marshall was led by senior Ida Dotson, who scored a game high 16 points. Christina Harbin also scored a career high 14 points for the visitors.
Akron?s Lindsay Hemmelgarn led three Zips in double-figures. Raegan Johnson and Jen Arnold also pitched in ten points apiece.
The Thundering Herd come home to face the Miami RedHawks Monday night. Tip-time is set for 7 p.m.
