Marshall's Bracket Buster Foe to be Announced Sunday Night

1/31/2003

Pairings for the inaugural ESPN BracketBuster Saturday will be announced Sunday night, February 2, at 11:30 p.m., as part of ESPN2's College Hoops 2-Night program.

The 18-team field features four teams each from the Mid-American Conference, Missouri Valley Conference and Western Athletic Conference and three from the Horizon League, plus Gonzaga from the West Coast Conference, UC Santa Barbara from the Big West Conference and Western Kentucky from the Sun Belt. MAC teams include Ball State (road game), Bowling Green (road), Kent State (home) and Marshall (home).

Of the 18 competing teams selected for 2003, 14 participated in postseason play last year, including nine in the NCAA Tournament. Kent State advanced to the NCAA's Elite Eight last year, while Ball State advanced to the Elite Eight of the NIT. Bowling Green also received an NIT bid.

The other teams in the field include Tulsa, Creighton, Illinois-Chicago, Detroit, Fresno State, Louisiana Tech, Hawaii, Illinois State, Southern Illinois, Northern Iowa and Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

"This will take vastly underexposed programs and conferences and bring them to a broader and bigger audience,'' said Burke Magnus, director of basketball programming for ESPN.

Nine nationally and regionally-televised games will be integrated into BracketBuster Saturday, which will take place Saturday, February 22, beginning at noon. A complete schedule of game times and networks follows below:
