10/25/2003

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Marshall Women's Tennis team continued to turn a strong performance on the campus of Virginia Tech as three players advanced in Saturday's ITA Regional action.

Senior Jessica Johnson (Sewickly, Pa.) kicked off the day for the Herd with a win over Lehigh's Kristen Nowicki 6-4, 6-1. Johnson will face Ana Maslesa of Temple at 3:30 p.m.

Ashley Kroh (Louisville, Ky.) took down Christine Alford of Yale in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. She will look to find a spot in Sunday's bracket when she takes on Maryland Terrapin Emily Marker at 4 p.m.

Lille Nzudie (Cameroon) knocked out Megan Marton of Penn State 7-6 (2), 6-2. Nzudie has the night cap for the Herd with a 5 p.m. matchup with Nikki Patak of Penn.

William and Mary College's Amy Wei was too much for Marshall senior Alice Sukner (Pittsburgh, Pa.) as Sukner dropped a 2-6, 4-6 decision early Saturday.

Doubles action for Marshall also continues as three teams remain alive in bracket play.
