Johnson and Kroh Advance To Finals Draw
10/9/2003
PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - The Marshall tandem of Jessica Johnson (Sewickly, Pa.) and Ashley Kroh (Louisville, Ky.) advanced to the Main Draw of the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships, by defeating Jessica Roland and Helga Viera of Texas A&M, 8-2. This marks the first time Marshall has advanced to the Main Draw in the premiere fall collegiate tournament.
The win ensures the Marshall pair a spot in this weekend's Main Draw, which brings together the 16 best doubles tandems in the country. Twelve teams were automatically into the Finals Draw because of ranking, while the Thundering Herd, Duke, Clemson, and Vanderbilt qualified over the past two days. Marshall posted wins over Arizona, Denver, and Texas A&M to advance.
Meanwhile, in the singles consolation draw, Johnson will face off against familiar face Suzana Mazkovic of Denver in the quarterfinals, one of her opponents in Wednesday's doubles action.
