Herd Women to Tackle Radford on Tuesday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- The Marshall women's basketball team will take on its second consecutive Big South opponent when the Radford Highlanders invade the Cam Henderson Center on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Marshall (2-0) is fresh off its Fifth Third MU Classic championship this past weekend, upending the Morgan State Lady Bears and the High Point Panthers. Sikeetha Shepard-Hall (Houston, Texas) was named the tournament's most valuable player after scoring at a 15.5 points per game clip, including a 23-point effort in the title tilt with HPU on Saturday. Herd senior Nadia Swanigan (Sylacauga, Ala.) was an all-tournament team selection after posting back-to-back, career-high 11-point games. The forward pulled down seven rebounds and dished out three assists in tourney action.
Radford (1-0) won its season-opener on Friday at Mt. St. Mary's by a 69-62 final score. Highlander junior Taryn Causey led the RU attack, recording 17 points thanks largely to 10-of-11 shooting from the free throw line.
Marshall leads the all-time series with Radford 12-11, but the Highlanders got the best of the Herd in the last meeting, defeating the Royce Chadwick-led squad 77-74 in overtime at the Dedmon Center last year. Current MU senior Catie Knable (Floyd Knobs, Ind.) paced the Herd with 13 rebounds and 11 points in that contest.
Head coach Jeri Porter is in her second season at Radford, guiding the Highlanders to a 9-18 record last season. RU returns two starters from that squad, including all-Big South preseason selection Amanda Neby, who averaged 17.1 ppg and 7.9 rpg in 2002-03.
