12/4/2003
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - For the first time in school history, Marshall University has four tennis players ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's women's singles regional rankings.
"This shows that we are one of the top programs in the east region," Marshall head coach John Mercer said. "The girls have really worked hard and hopefully we can live up to the high expectations."
The rankings, released Wednesday by the ITA, have Marshall's Jessica Johnson (Senior, Sewickly, Pa.) ranked eighth, Lille Nzudie (Junior, Cameroon) ranked 17th, Alice Sukner (Senior, Pittsburgh, Pa.) ranked 19th, and Ashley Kroh (Junior, Louisville, Ky.) ranked 30th in the Northeast Region.
In addition to the singles rankings, Marshall has two doubles teams ranked among the top 15 in the region. The duo of Johnson and Kroh is ranked second, and the team of Sukner and Nzudie is ranked eighth.
The Thundering Herd opens the season on January 24th at the University of Kentucky.
