Bobcats Overcome Cold Shooting Herd, 80-66

ATHENS, OHIO--The Ohio Bobcats won for the second time this season over the Marshall Thundering Herd, 80-66, Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center. Marshall drops to 9-15, 5-8 in the Mid-American Conference, while the Bobcats improve to 8-17, 4-10 in MAC play.
The outcome of the game was decided in the first half, when Marshall hit only nine-of-40 shots from the floor (22.5%), while Ohio was 15-of-30 (.500) in the first half.
Marshall only committed 14 turnovers for the game, seven below their season average, and outrebounded the Bobcats, 44-40, on the glass, including a 23-11 advantage on the offensive boards.
Ohio jumped on Marshall early, but the Herd responded, knotting the game at ten at the 13:48 mark. The Bobcats then put together a game-deciding 10-3 run to knock out Marshall for good. Ohio took a 36-24 lead into the halftime break, and in the second half, the Bobcats? lead hovered around a ten-point margin the rest of the way.
?We have 16 offensive rebounds in the first half, and only nine field goals, and that?s not very good,? said Marshall head coach Royce Chadwick. ?I didn?t think we played very well offensively in the first half, and we got our heads down.
?We started to hit in the second half, but the defensive effort wasn?t there.?
Marshall had four players in double-figures, including Catie Knable (Floyd Knobs, Ind.) who posted her seventh double-double of the season with ten points and 14 rebounds. Sikeetha
Shepard-Hall (Houston, Tex.) and Christina Harbin (Miami, Fla.) each added 11 points, while Ida Dotson (Tombstone, Ariz.) tallied ten points.
Ohio got a game-high 21 points from Candace Bates, 18 points from Latreece Bagley, and 14 points from Andrea Johnson.
MU takes on Bowling Green Wednesday night at Anderson Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m..
