Thundering Herd Women Host Akron On Senior Day

Huntington, W.Va.--The Marshall women?s basketball team (10-15, 6-8 MAC) is back in action Saturday afternoon in the Henderson Center when they take on the Akron Zips (2-23, 1-13 MAC) at 1 p.m.
Marshall?s most recent game was an impressive 69-50 win over Bowling Green at Anderson Arena on Wednesday night. Senior Amy Reed led the Herd with her second double-double of the season with 16 points and ten rebounds. She, fellow senior Ida Dotson, and senior manager Christine Kinch will be honored before tip-off tomorrow.
The Herd currently sit in the ninth spot in the Kraft MAC Women?s Basketball Tournament race, and with a win over the Zips, would clinch the ninth seed. With the top three seeds getting byes, and the four through eight seeds hosting, that leaves the Herd on the outside looking in when it comes to playing on their home floor in a first round tournament game. However, Marshall still has a chance to host a game if they win their last two against Akron and on the road at Miami.
MU is looking to avenge a loss earlier this season to the Zips, who claimed their only Mid-American Conference win against the Herd, 59-49, on January 15th. Akron is led by Cassandra Martin, who averages 13.7 points per game.
After the game has concluded Saturday afternoon, the Herd will be at press row to sign autographs for all that are interested.
