CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Marshall sophomore Erika Nilsson (Haninge, Sweden) was named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team on Tuesday, as voted by the faculty athletic representatives at each school that sponsors women's swimming and diving.
Nilsson currently posts a 3.53 GPA and is studying in the Pre-Business/Marketing curriculum at Marshall University. The Swede was also named to the All-MAC Second Team for her excellent performances in the pool during the 2002-03 season.
Nilsson was the Thundering Herd's top distance swimmer this season. She placed fourth in the 500-yard freestyle at the MAC Championships in February with a time of 4:58.56.
The honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50% of the contests for that particular sport.
