Marshall Falls to Kent State in MAC Quarterfinals, 79-57

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Antonio Gates scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Kent State University to a 79-57 win over Marshall University in the quarterfinals of the Mid-American Conference men's basketball tournament Thursday.
Marshall (14-15) set the tone early and took a 36-34 lead into the locker room at halftime thanks to a tremendous shooting effort. The Thundering Herd shot 57% from the floor in the first half and an incredible 66.7% three-point range (6-9).
Marshall's fourtunes turned in the second half, however, as Kent State connected on 53.1% of its shots and shot a scorching 60% from three, while limiting the Herd to only 21.1% shooting.
Kent State (20-8) out-scored Marshall 45-21 in the second stanza and finished the game with a 53.6% shooting percentage. Kent State forced Marshall into 21 turnovers and held Marshall scoreless for an eight minute period.
Marshall was led by Ronald Blackshear and Marvin Black, who both scored 10 points a piece. David Anderson led the Herd with eight rebounds.
Eric Haut hit for 13 Kent State points, while Nate Gerwig added 12 points and Anthony Wilkins 11.
