Marshall Swimming and Diving Finishes Ninth at MAC Championships

Bowling Green, Ohio-For the second time in two days, freshman Milla Kuurto swam to a second place finish at the Mid-American Conference championships. On the third and final day, Kuurto swam a 2:02.24 in the 200-yard butterfly to finish second to Eastern Michigan?s Althea Lim. After the three-day competition, Kuurto was named first team all-conference while sophomore Erika Nilsson was a second-team selection.
In addition to Kuurto, Nilsson garnered points for the Thundering Herd during the third and final day when she finished seventh in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:07.47.
Although the two performances boosted the Thundering Herd?s three-day point total, the first-year squad finished ninth at the championships.
In other action during the day, Michele Knicely swam a season best 54.82 in the 100-yard freestyle relay on her way to a 37th place finish in the event.
In the final event at the championships, the Marshall 400-yard freestyle relay team of Kuurto, Nilsson, Knicely and Liisa Raty managed an eighth place finish with a time 3:34.73.
Miami (Ohio) won the three day competition with a score of 715.50.
