Women's Swimming and Diving Program Announces 2003-04 Schedule

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. ? Head coach Leonard Kraus announced on Wednesday that Marshall University will open its second season of competitive women?s swimming and diving on Oct. 18 when the Thundering Herd plays host to the Penguins of Youngstown State University at Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium.
The Herd garnered home-pool advantage only three times last season, but the 2003-2004 schedule will feature double the home meets as seven teams will visit the MU campus next fall.
Marshall?s Mid-American Conference slate commences on Oct. 31 when the Toledo Rockets invade Fitch Natatorium for the first of four-straight conference home meets for the Thundering Herd. Eastern Michigan visits the next day on Nov. 1, followed by another weekend MAC doubleheader on Nov. 7-8 with Buffalo and Akron, respectively.
MU will travel to Oxford, Ohio, three times next season to visit the home of the defending MAC champion Miami RedHawks. The Miami Invitational takes place from Dec. 6-8 at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center, and Marshall will later wrap up its regular season on Feb. 7 in a dual meet at the same facility. The RedHawks will also host the MAC Championships from Feb. 26-28.
?I am extremely pleased with how our schedule has turned out,? Kraus said. ?We have a lot of tough back-to-back meets, but I think it will be beneficial to us come MAC Championships time.?
Marshall went 5-9 last season, 0-8 in the MAC, in its first year of swimming since a brief, one-year stint in 1974.
