Chadwick Receives Contract Extension

5/8/2003

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University Director of Athletics Bob Marcum announced today that women?s basketball head coach Royce Chadwick has accepted a two-year contract extension that will keep him at Marshall through the 2007-08 season.

?We are all proud of the improvements that have been made in our women?s basketball program. Royce and his staff have done a great job in laying a solid foundation for the future,? Marcum said. ?I am pleased with the overall direction of the program and excited about our future in women?s basketball with Royce at the helm.?

Chadwick just completed the second year at Marshall. This last season, he guided Marshall to its first appearance in the Mid-American Conference Quarterfinals, with the school?s first-ever MAC tournament win, while posting the most wins for a Marshall team since the 1996-97 season. Chadwick has also brought in two consecutive recruting classes that have been rated among the top-50 in the nation.

In addition to team improvements, two of Chadwick?s players have been honored by the prominent women?s basketball website www.women?scollegehoops.com the last two seasons. Last year, MAC All-Freshmen team selection Sikeetha Shepard-Hall was the only MAC player named to the Freshmen All-American Award list, while Ida Dotson was named to the site?s All-Underrated Team in 2002.

?I?m excited about Marshall?s commitment to women?s basketball,? Chadwick said. ?Our staff is commited to Marshall University and we are looking forward to adding to Marshall?s legacy by winning a championship in women?s basketball.?
