CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Marshall University women's swimming and diving team defeated Xavier University yesterday by a score of 55-40. The Herd won nine out of eleven events.
Junior Erika Nilsson (Haninge, Sweden) was the top performer for the Herd finishing first in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:39.54), the 200-yard butterfly (2:08.46) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:12.42).
The Marshall 200-yard medley relay placed first with a time of 1:52.36. The team was comprised of sophomores Liisa Raty (Espoo, Finland) and Emily Moe (Rockford, Mich.) and freshmen Cara Davison (Chesterton, Ind.) and Emily Edmonson (Chattanooga, Tenn.). Davison, Raty and Edmonson along with sophomore Milla Kuurto (Lohja, Finland) also placed first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:40.24.
Kuurto added first place finishes in the 200-yard individual medley (2:10.34) and the 100-yard freestyle (53.30). Edmonson and Davison had first place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56) and the 50-yard freestyle (25.01), respectively.
The Herd is next in action today when they travel to Bowling Green University to take on the falcons. Start time is set for 4:00 p.m.
