Thundering Herd Men Await MAC Rival Ohio

1/23/2004

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall men's basketball team looks for their second conference win in a row when the Ohio Bobcats invade the Cam Henderson Center Saturday evening. The Herd enter the game with a 6-8 overall record, 3-3 in the Mid-American Conference, while Ohio sits at 5-11, 2-4 in league action.

The task will not be easy - Ohio has won four straight meetings between the two schools, and Bobcat head coach Tim O'Shea has never lost to the Thundering Herd. Ohio leads the all-time series, 46-40, including a double-overtime, 87-85 win last season at the Henderson Center. Marshall?s last win in the series came on February 17th, 2001, when the Herd defeated the Bobcats, 92-70 in Huntington.

Ohio currently sits at 5-11, 2-4 in the Mid-American Conference. In league play, the Bobcats have defeated Buffalo and split two meetings with Northern Illinois, and have lost against Akron, Kent State, and Toledo. Jaivon Harris leads Ohio in scoring with 14.1 points per game. Thomas Stevens is next averaging 11.8 points per game.

In Marshall's last time out, The Herd lost a 55-51 decision to intrastate rival West Virginia Wednesday night in Charleston at the annual Toyota Capital Classic. Marshall had a chance late in the game down one, but the Mountaineers got a key putback by Tyrone Sally and dodged a long range, game-tying three-point attempt by Ronny Dawn to come away with the victory. MU?s Marvin Black added his sixth double-double of the season with 18 points and ten rebounds.

Saturday's contest will be televised on the Thundering Herd/ISP Network and will be broadcasted on WSAZ-TV in Huntington, WVFX-46 in Clarksburg, W.Va., WB-TV 5 in Toledo, Ohio, and WDRL-TV in Roanoke, Va. Satellite Coordinates for the game are SBS 6, Transponder 7 on the KU Band.

The Marshall M Club will also "Bring Back The Herd Basketball Teams of the 1970's" on Saturday night and honor them at halftime of the game. They will also be available to talk with fans and friends in the Robert C. Hartley Room an hour before tip off, which is set for a 7 p.m. start.
