Marshall Men Collide With RedHawks Wednesday Evening

1/27/2004

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. ? The Thundering Herd look to close out a three-game Mid-American Conference homestand a perfect three-for-three when the Miami RedHawks come to town Wednesday evening. The road will not be easy ? Miami is 9-6 overall, and one spot above Marshall in the MAC East Division standings at 5-2. The Herd sits at 7-8, 4-3 in the Mid-American Conference.

The RedHawks have won five out of their last six games, and most recently defeated Eastern Michigan, 74-46, at Millett Hall in Oxford on Saturday. Senior Juby Johnson leads Miami in scoring, averaging 15.3 points while point guard Chet Mason leads the RedHawks in rebounding with 7.5 rebounds per game.

The Herd is in the midst of a two-game MAC winning streak after defeating Buffalo and Ohio. Marshall most recently ended a four-game losing streak to the Bobcats Saturday evening, 74-60. Marshall?s two leading scorers both came off the bench - guard Enoch Bunch and forward David Anderson. Bunch kept the Herd in the game in the first half with 12 of his game-high 15 points, while Anderson scored 12 of his 14 points in a 20-2 run midway through the second half to give Marshall the momentum for victory. Ronny Dawn also added ten points in the Herd?s winning effort.

The RedHawks lead the all-time series, 44-27 over the Thundering Herd. However, Marshall has won the last three meetings in Huntington, including last season?s 58-51 win on March 8th. All-time in the Henderson Center, the record is tied at 3-3.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
