Quotes from Bob Pruett's Weekly Press Conference

10/19/2004

The following quotes are from Marshall University Head Football Coach Bob Pruett's weekly press conference.

On this season:
?It reminds me of 2000, we were 2-4 that season coming off of a loss at Toledo, and came back, this season is similar, we were under .500 for most of this season and hopefully we can come back this weekend to get back over it. We have work to do and they have been working hard to get back to this point.?

On Jonathan Goddard:
?He was named a semi-finalists for the Lombardi trophy, that is really special for him. To see his progress and the way he has matured has been great, he has really become a leader and has excelled in our scheme.?

?He is maturing into the type of football player we thought he would be when we recruited him. He has really been an impact player. He has had the most impact on games of any defensive player we have had (at Marshall).?

?More of our tackles are getting sacks, since offenses put more emphasis on Goddard, that leaves our tackles being covered 1 on 1 and helps them to get to the quarterback.?

On Graham Gochneaur:
?We went into the game expecting Graham to play and he did what we expected him to do. He knows the offense and did a great job. He has been better than last year, he has worked hard, and he understands the offense a lot better. It just gives us another option and another player who we can put in.?

Being back home after four of six on the road:
?It?s always good to be home, with the atmosphere and everything we have going, it is great. With homecoming this weekend, it should bring in a larger crowd. last season against KSU brought in a crowd over 30,000 and I hope to see the same this week.?

On Buffalo:
?They use three quarterbacks and do a great job of packaging what they do on offense. They play hard, they gave Syracuse problems, beat UCF and played Miami hard, they are much improved, their defense has been better. Our offense has not been explosive, so they could give us some struggles.?

Special teams:
?That is something the team has worked on. Our defense and special teams were an emphasis all season and our hard work has showed.?

On the secondary at Kent State:
?We had the most interceptions we had all year, they did a great job, when our guys execute, they can be pretty good.?
