Herd’s Halloween kickoff slated for afternoon at S.B. Ballard Stadium
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Football's Oct. 31 contest at Old Dominion will be a 1 p.m. kickoff shown on ESPN+ from S.B. Ballard Stadium in Norfolk, Va.
The announcement for the Oct. 31 game was made in conjunction with the Sun Belt Conference and ESPN through the network's 12-day broadcast window.
The meeting between the two teams will be the 12th overall in the series, which dates back to the Conference USA days prior to both teams joining the Sun Belt together prior to the 2022 season.
Marshall has had a decided edge against the Monarchs in the overall series, having won 10 of 11 meetings to date since the teams began playing annually in 2014.
The last two meetings in Norfolk were polar opposites of each other.
In 2022, the teams met in their first season as Sun Belt members and the Herd won a 12-0 contest on the strength of four field goals by kicker Rece Verhoff.
However, in 2024, the contest was an offensive shootout as the Herd and Monarchs went up-and-down the field at will with each offense producing big numbers.
Eventually, the Herd got the defensive stop it needed on fourth down to preserve a 42-35 win that helped lead them to the 2024 SBC Championship.
That Oct. 31 game between Marshall and Old Dominion will be the Herd's next contest following Tuesday's 7:30 p.m. contest against South Alabama that will be shown on ESPN2.
