LEXINGTON, Ky. ? With rain showers forcing some play indoors on a chilly, breezy day at the University of Kentucky Fall Invitational, the Thundering Herd tennis team played much better in second day action at the tournament.

?We continue to show improvements and are taking baby steps to where we want to go,? Marshall head coach John Mercer said. ?There?s still several steps to take, but we?re getting there more and more each day.?

Having the biggest day for the Herd was senior Danielle Hock (Wiggin, England). Hock picked up three wins on the day, two in doubles with freshman partner Shannon Brown (Overland Park, Kan.) and one in singles. Hock and Brown were 8-2 victors over Louisville and 8-5 winners against Abilene Christian. Hock picked up a singles win over Ana Marie Cibilis of Middle Tennessee State 6-4, 6-1.

Also winning in singles for the Herd was freshman Jeanne Schwartz (West Palm Beach, Fla.). Schwartz picked up a 7-5, 6-2 win against Leslie Stewart of Louisville. Another freshman, Alizee Paradis (Quebec City, Canada) picked up a come-from behind win 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 against Allie Lindel of Arkansas. Rounding out the singles wins for the Herd in one of the last matches as night descended on the courts at UK was senior Lille Nzudie (Douala, Cameroon) . Nzudie downed Macall Hawkins of Illinois in a grueling three-setter, 6-4, 6-7, 7-5.

Nzudie and Schwartz also picked up a doubles win over Illinois 8-4.

?We improved today on some things we?ve been working on,? Mercer said. ?Attitude has been something we?ve focused on this fall and playing with enthusiasm and having fun and I think they really showed that out there today.?

The UK Fall Invitational concludes Sunday with matches beginning at 9 a.m.
