Kroh and Hock Advance at ITA East Regionals
10/23/2004
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. ? Winning was the trend of the day for Marshall senior tennis players Ashley Kroh (Louisville, Ky.) and Danielle Hock (Wiggin, England) at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association East Regional Tournament in Philadelphia hosted by the University of Pennsylvania.
Kroh and Hock both won their first round matches in singles action. Hock downed Mariam Al-Shikarchy of Niagara 6-1, 6-3 and Kroh defeated Whiteny Simcik of UCONN 6-0, 6-1. Kroh plays Ana Maslesa of Temple in the next round and Hock takes on Jayme Ahmed of Dartmouth.
?It was good to start out with some wins today,? Marshall head coach John Mercer said. ?Now we?ve got a lot of tough matches tomorrow to get ready for. It should be a good day.?
The tandem also joined forces on the doubles circuit and picked up an 8-0 win over Sacred Heart and an 8-2 win over Quinnipiac to advance to take on Harvard Sunday.
?Ashley and Danielle really played well in all four matches today,? Mercer said. ?Hopefully we can do the same tomorrow and keep picking up good wins against tough opponents.?
The ITA East Regional tournament is a field of the top players teams in the East Region. There are 17 Regional championships being played in the next two weekend in women?s and men?s action with the winners advancing to the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships.
