Quotes from Head Coach Bob Pruett's Weekly Press Conference
10/5/2004
The season thus far
?We?ve been in four very exciting football games and it?s been very good for our program?to finally win one?makes a huge difference in your mood, in the feeling and in the way you approach things.?
The rest of the season
I talked to our football team and we had four exciting football games with the most important of them being the Miami game, because it was our first conference game. It?s a new season, the conference season and we have a big month of October?Five games in October, it?s a huge month of football ?all are conference games and all are very important. Our goal is to be undefeated in October.?
?The biggest of all the challenges is the next ball game, whichever one that might be?now it?s Ohio.?
About Ohio
?Ohio is off to a good start with two great wins with a shut-out against Buffalo and then dominating a Kentucky football team. Whenever you dominate an SEC team you are doing something well. They do a good job of moving things around and they are playing very good defense. ?
?(Coach Knorr) is doing a good job of growing with his program and developing, and keeping his players healthy?that was the key last season was that they had so many injuries?it wasn?t fair, 28 injuries is a huge number.?
?Anytime you play away in the MAC you have a tough ball game. No matter who it is.?
On West Virginia natives Scott Mayle and Dennis Chukwuemeka who play for Ohio
He (Mayle) is a good player. He got away and I wish he hadn?t. I wish he was wearing our green and not there?s. That?s to Ohio?s credit. He?s from West Virginia and I am proud of the job he is doing ? I always hope West Virginia kids do well.
He (Chukwuemeka) has done a real good job and been an outstanding player for them (as well).
Saturday?s game and beyond
?We are going to have to go up there, play for the bell and it will be a battle between two good football teams. Its also exciting that it looks like we will continue to play them?possibly in 2006?that?s one of the things that everyone including their (Ohio) coach and athletic director wants?is to continue to play them and keep that rivalry going. It?s important to keep rivalries.?
?This is another one of the fun games and the Battle of the Bell?I look forward to continuing it.?
Prime Points in Saturday?s Game
?Biggest thing is that they?ve added some foot speed in their wide receivers and their running backs?and the thing that they?ve done is add the ability to throw the football to their offense now so they don?t have to worry about controlling the ball because they are able to score very quickly.?
?Really good (offensive) scheme?reminds me of us and Miami (Ohio) and I think those are two pretty good football teams.?
?It?s two good football teams that are getting ready to go at it and have a fun day?which ever one gets the breaks and things fall their way, then I am sure that?s the team that?s going to win the ball game.?
?Special teams will play a huge part in this game?we?ve improved to the point where hopefully we are competitive with other teams in the league where as last year I don?t believe we were competitive.?
