Kuurto Receives Swimmer of the Week Honors

CLEVELAND - Marshall University junior swimmer Milla Kuurto was named the Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week for November 9.
The Lohja, Finland native captured the top spots in each of her individual events over the weekend. Against Toledo, Kuurto placed first in the 100-yard backstroke (58.73), the 100-yard butterfly (57.50) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:08.36). In the meet against Eastern Michigan, Kuurto finished in the top spots in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.16), the 100-yard butterfly (58.26) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:09.28). She also helped the team to a victory in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:50.79.
Also receiving nominations this week were Lindsay Power of Akron, Maddy Pilchard from Eastern Michigan, Lauren Evanosky of Miami, Ilse Peterson from Ohio and Megan McKinley from Toledo.
This is the third Swimmer of the Week honor for Kuurto during her career at Marshall. She received the honor once during both her freshman and sophomore years. This is the first Swimmer of the Week honor the Thundering Herd has received this season.
