Marshall Places Third at Miami Invitational

OXFORD, Ohio - The Marshall University women's swimming and diving team finished third this weekend at the Miami Invitational just behind host team Miami and Kenyon College who finished first and second, respectively.

Leading the Herd on the final day of competition was the top finishing 400-yard freestyle relay team that set a new school record with a time of 3:30.31 breaking the previous record of 3:32.42. Members of the team included Milla Kuurto (Lohja, Finland), Cara Davison (Chesterton, Ind.), Renee Lambert (Morrelville, Tenn.) and Erika Nilsson (Haninge, Sweden).

Kuurto also had a top finish in the 100-yard freestyle (51.63) and a third place finish in the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.56).

In the 1650-freestyle the Herd had three members place in the top-10. Nilsson placed third with a time of 17:10.20. Freshman Ashley McIlvain (Brentwood, Tenn.) came in sixth (17:26.97) and Lambert placed eighth (17:42.14).

The Herd will take a winter training trip to Florida over the Christmas holidays and will next be in action in a home meet on Jan. 21 against Bowling Green University. Start time is set for 6 p.m.
