Marshall Women Travel to Akron for Wednesday Night Tilt
2/3/2004
The Marshall women?s basketball team, losers of four of their last five games, aims to even its Mid-American Conference record when the Thundering Herd travels to Akron to take on the Zips on Wednesday at 7 p.m. from the James A. Rhodes Arena.
The Herd (11-7, 3-4 MAC) last played on Jan. 27, a 78-70 loss to Miami (Ohio) on the Cam Henderson Center floor. Akron (5-13, 0-7 MAC) has lost seven straight games and has not won a conference tilt since Jan. 15, 2003, when it defeated Marshall last year.
The Zips are 1-22 in the MAC over the last two seasons.
Forward/center Catie Knable (Floyd Knobs, Ind.) will tie Tammy Wiggins (1983-87) in third place on the all-time Marshall rebound list with her next board, which will move her to No. 809 for her career. The senior ranks third in the MAC in rebounds per game (9.7) and is also just 28 points shy from 800 career points.
Sikeetha Shepard-Hall (Houston, Texas) is Marshall?s lone player to average double-digits in points in the Herd?s seven league games. At 11.1 points per game in MAC play, Shepard-Hall sits just behind Akron?s Jae Conn in the category with 11.4 ppg.
Conn and junior guard Lori Krezeczowski starred in the Zips? loss to Kent State on Saturday, scoring 20 and seven points, respectively. Krezeczowski registered 10 assists. UA posted a season-high 10 3-pointers versus the Golden Flashes.
Wednesday?s game pits the MAC?s best rebounding team, Marshall, against the league?s worst in Akron. The Herd posts a MAC-high +9.7 rebounding margin while the Zips stand at a -7.8 margin. Marshall is also second in the MAC with a +2.33 turnover margin to Akron?s league-low -3.67 TO margin.
