HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Sophomore swimmer Milla Kuurto (Lohja, Finland) received the official word on Friday that she will be competing in the NCAA Championships. The meet will take place, March 19-21, in College Station, Texas.
Kuurto's record setting performace in the 100-yard butterfly (54.21) at the Mid-American Conference Championships secured her a spot in the NCAA Championships. She is currently ranked 20th nationally in the event. In addition to the 100-fly, Kuurto will also be competing in the 200-yard butterfly. Her time at the MAC Championships (2:00.36) placed her at 36th in the nation.
"After this last week of waiting and practicing, it's nice to know officially that she qualified," said Marshall University Head Coach Leonard Kraus, "we're really excited it's Milla's first time there and she will be competing against some of world's top swimmers."
Kuurto is the only swimmer in the Mid-American Conference to qualify.
