Huntington, W.Va ? Shannon Brown of Overland Park, Kan., has signed to play for head coach John Mercer and the three-time defending Mid-American Conference champion Thundering Herd tennis team for the 2004-05 season.
?We?re excited about the addition of Shannon to our program,? Mercer said. ?She brings a lot of talent and work ethic to the team. She also brings a lot of experience playing on a national level in juniors with her to Marshall and we hope she can step in and contribute immediately at the college level.?
Brown has been ranked in the top five of the Missouri Valley Tennis Section throughout her career and in the top 100 nationally in the USTA rankings. Her highest national ranking in the 18?s is No. 77.
A graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School, along with her tennis career, Brown lettered on the high school's varsity soccer team freshman year. She placed third in state tennis both sophomore and junior year and was selected first-team All-Metro in the Kansas City area all three years. She was also selected for the 2001, 2002 and 2003 "Who's Who Among High School Students".
Brown along with Canadian standout Alizee Paradis and West Palm Beach, Fla., native Jeanne Schwartz make up the Thundering Herd incoming freshman class.
