BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Senior setter Katie Stein had 51 assists, 15 digs and an .818 hitting percentage to help guide the Thundering Herd volleyball team to a 3-1 (27-30, 30-16, 30-21, 30-27) win over the UAB Blazers Friday night in C-USA action at Bartow Arena.

The senior from Sussex, Wis., finished just one kill shy of her first career triple-double on the night with nine put-aways. Stein also had three service aces to up her career total to 173, making her the all-time leader in program history as she passed Bridget Repsher's mark of 170.

The more important number on the night for the Herd however was the number six as it improved to 6-0 in C-USA to remain atop the league standings. Marshall is 14-4 overall with the victory and has now won a season-best seven in a row. With the loss, UAB falls to 11-4 on the season and 2-3 in league play.

On the night, Marshall outhit the Blazers .331 to .190 and dug out 59 balls compared to 43 on the night for UAB to help seal the deal.

The Herd started off a little slow as the Blazers jumped out to an early advantage thanks to a .462 team hitting percentage and zero attack errors. Isabel Oquendo led all players with six kills and five digs in game one. Nevena Stefanov added 17 assists as UAB held on for a 30-27 win.

Marshall would bounce back with authority, taking games two and three handily, 30-16 and 30-21 respectively. Game four would be back and forth, but the Herd would eventually put things away 30-27 to keep its stronghold on the top spot in C-USA.

"We kept it rolling tonight," Marshall head coach Mitch Jacobs said of the team's momentum. "Now we've got to get refocused and ready for Memphis on Sunday."

Also on the night for the Herd, Kelly-Anne Billingy led all players with 17 kills. Nickie Sanlin was stellar once again with eight kills and a .667 hitting percentage, while Stephanie Cahill and Amber Sims put down 13 and 12 kills, respectively.
