PITTSBURGH - After enjoying an unplanned weekend off, the Marshall Thundering Herd women's swimming and diving team will embark on a three-meet road trip this weekend, beginning Friday.

Marshall (2-1) will face Duquesne (1-1) and Shippensburg (1-1) at 6 p.m. in a double meet at Towers Pool on the campus of Duquesne University.

Duquesne suffered its first loss last weekend, 154-83, at St. Bonaventure, while Shippensburg took a 114-77 home victory over Canisius this past Sunday.

Marshall head coach Leonard Kraus hopes this weekend's meets will benefit his team from a line-up standpoint and hopes that last weekend doesn't effect his team's performance this weekend.

"It will be nice to get back into the swing of things since we missed last weekend," Kraus said. "The meets this weekend will afford us the chance to take a closer look at our freshmen.

"It will also let us explore other possible line-ups that will make us a better dual meet team."

The meet Friday will mark the Herd's second all-time meeting with the Dukes. In 2004, Marshall handed Duquesne a 168-120 loss at Akron. But, it will also mark the first-ever meeting between the Herd and Shippensburg Raiders.

Marshall will then travel to Youngstown, Ohio, to face familiar foe Youngstown State in a 1 p.m. meet at the Beeghly Natatorium on Saturday.

The Penguins open their season Friday against the Canisius College Golden Griffins. Marshall holds a 3-0 record all-time against YSU. Last season, the Herd pounded the Penguins 210-90 in its season opener at the Fitch Natatorium.

"We have swam against Duquesne and YSU before, but Shippensburg is new competition for us," Kraus added. "I always look forward to swimming against new teams.

"Hopefully, we can take this weekend one meet at a time and come out with three wins and a better knowledge of what his team is capable of in the pool."

Following this weekend's triumvirate of meets, the Herd will return to action Friday, Nov. 4, when it travels to Oxford, Ohio, to face Miami University and Illinois in a double meet, beginning at 4 p.m.
