IRVING, Texas - Marshall center Modupe Ishola (Washington, D.C.) has been named the season's first Conference USA Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her efforts in leading the Thundering Herd to a 2-0 start and its fourth straight Fifth Third MU Classic championship last weekend, the league office announced today.

Ishola, a 6-foot-2 junior, dominated play in the post in the Herd's season-opening tournament at the Cam Henderson Center. She registered her fifth career double-double by scoring a career-high 22 points with 11 rebounds in Saturday's 69-47 title game win over South Carolina State. Her nine field goals against SCSU also tied a career mark as she went 9-of-11 from the floor, including 5-of-6 in MU's big second-half run.

In the season-opener versus Tennessee State on Friday, Ishola tallied a block, assist and steal in the same game for the fourth time of her career. She netted 11 points and grabbed seven boards against the Lady Tigers in an 81-57 win.

Ishola was joined by teammate Sikeetha Shepard-Hall (Houston, Texas) on the Fifth Third MU Classic All-Tournament team.

The Player of the Week nod is the second of Ishola's career as she was named the Mid-American Conference East Division POTW on Dec. 6, 2004.

Ishola and the Herd will travel to Cancun, Mexico, for a pair of Caribbean Classic matchups with California on Thanksgiving Day and fifth-ranked Baylor on Sunday. Both games can be heard live on WMUL 88.1-FM or on the web at www.marshall.edu/wmul.
