RIVIERA MAYA, Mexico - The Marshall women's basketball team has traveled south of the border to take part in the 2005 Caribbean Classic in Riviera Maya, Mexico where it will begin its two-game international stop with a meeting with the Cal Golden Bears on Thursday at 8:10 PM EST. Marshall will then face the defending NCAA champion Baylor Lady Bears on Sunday at 2:40 PM EST.

The Caribbean Classic was originally scheduled to be held in Cancun, but damage caused by Hurricane Wilma pushed the event 40 miles south to Riviera Maya. All games will be held at the Aventura Spa Palace Resort. Arizona State, North Carolina, TCU and Mississippi State are also participating in the Caribbean Classic.

The Thundering Herd (2-0) is fresh off its fourth straight Fifth Third MU Classic championship after dealing Tennessee State and South Carolina State a pair of 20-point losses in its home tournament. Senior Sikeetha Shepard-Hall seized tournament MVP honors after averaging 16.0 points, 3.5 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game.

Cal (3-1) is coming off a 67-58 win over UC Davis on Tuesday night. The Golden Bears are led in scoring by freshman Ashley Walker's 16.5 points per game and senior Renee Wright's 9.8 rebounds per game.

The Herd and Bears have met only one other time, a 66-59 Cal win in 1997. That contest was also a nuetral site affair, coming at the Hawaii Airlines Rainbow Classic in Honolulu.

Both of the Herd's contests in Mexico will be broadcast on Marshall's student station, WMUL 88.1-FM, which will also utilize a web broadcast at www.marshall.edu/wmul.
