Herd Has Strong Showing at Kitty Harrison Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Freshman Jessica Keener (Reston, Va./South Lakes) defeated Virginia Tech's J.J. Larsen 6-3, 6-4 in day two of the Second Annual Kitty Harrison Invitational on the campus of the University of North Carolina.
Freshman Karolina Soor (Lindesberg, Sweden/Adalsskolan) dropped a tough 6-4, 6-2 decision to Virginia Tech's Anat Elazari, who is ranked No. 114 in the ITA Preseason Top 125 poll. On Friday, Soor lost in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 to No. 92 Alex Hirsch of Wake Forest.
In Marshall's third singles match on Saturday, Virginia Tech's Jessica Brouwer knocked off sophomore Alizee Paradis (Ouebec City, Quebec) 7-6, 6-2.
In doubles play on Friday, Soor and Keener lost 8-1 to North Carolina's 33rd-ranked doubles tandem of Meg Fanjoy and Austin Smith. Paradis and East Tennessee State's Vita Moskaliova lost 8-0 to UNC's Laura Reichert and Charlie Tansill.
Keener and Paradis both lost their Friday singles matches in straight sets.
The Kitty Harrison Invitational is Marshall's last fall tournament of the 2005-06. The Thundering Herd begins its spring season on Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, against Richmond and Wright State in Huntington.
