IRVING, Texas - Marshall's Sikeetha Shepard-Hall (Houston, Texas) was named the Conference USA Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the first time of her career, the league office announced on Monday.
Shepard-Hall, a senior guard, averaged 19.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists in leading Marshall to a 2-0 mark last week, including the Herd's win in its inaugural C-USA game on Friday versus East Carolina. She scored a team season-high 27 points in a prior win at Wright State, three off her career-high of 30 points.
For the week, she went 10-of-17 from the floor for a 58.8 percent shooting clip and went a perfect 16-of-16 from the free-throw line. Her 10-for-10 effort from the charity stripe at Wright State tied a career-high for free throws made in a game and helped stave off a comeback attempt by the Raiders. She shot 60.0 percent from 3-point range for the week (3-of-5).
Shepard-Hall's C-USA Player of the Week nod, her first in C-USA and second career honor after having won a Mid-American Conference Player of the Week award last season, is the second for a Marshall player this year. Center Modupe Ishola won the league's first award this season on Nov. 22.
Shepard-Hall and the Herd (5-3, 1-0 C-USA) travel to Charlottesville, Va., to face the Virginia Cavaliers (6-1) for a 7 p.m. tipoff on Tuesday.
