Churchill Continues to Lead Field at Rio Verde

RIO VERDE, Ariz. -- Marshall sophomore golfer Amber Churchill (Dublin, Ohio) continued her lead Friday at the East/West Rio Verde Invitational with a second-round total of three over par to enter Saturday's final round with a two-stroke lead.

Churchill countered five bogeys with a pair of birdies to follow up her even first round with a plus-3 in round two. Three players sit behind Churchill in second place with a five over par for the tournament in Liz Bennett of Iowa, Laura Olin of Michigan and Minnesota's Sophie Stubbs.

The UM Wolverines lead the team race with a two-day total of 604 (+36). Marshall is in 15th place with a score of 635 (+67). Eighteen teams are participating in the tournament.

Herd sophomore Tammy Mahar (Ashland, Ky.) shot six over par on Friday and has a two-round total of 17 over par. Mahar is in a tie for 41st place.

The final round from Rio Verde Country Club begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
