The Intercollegiate Tennis Association released its regional award winners Wednesday and Marshall University was well represented.
Head coach John Mercer was named the East Region Wilson/ITA Coach of the Year, senior Ashley Kroh was named the East Region ITA/Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship recipient and senior Lille Nzudie was named the East Region ITA/Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award winner.
The ITA/Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship goes to a player who
has exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements, while the Cissie Leary Award for Sportsmanship goes to a women?s player who displays inspiring dedication and commitment to her team, which has enhanced her team?s performance and exemplified the spirit of college tennis.
Kroh and Nzudie are both graduating as the top graduating students in their respective majors. Kroh is graduating with a 3.8 overall GPA and is the top marketing student in Marshall's Lewis College of Business, while Nzudie finishes with a 3.83 GPA and is the top advertising student at Marshall.
The 69th-ranked Thundering Herd will travel to Lexington, Ky., to play the third-ranked University of Kentucky Wildcats in the first round of the NCAA Tournament this Friday.
Marshall (19-7), winners of four straight Mid-American Conference Championships, enters the NCAA Tournament on an 11-match winning streak.
