NASSAU, Bahamas - Newcomer Travis Aikens scored 25 points and had 11 rebounds to lead the Thundering Herd to a 105-92 win over Real Deal Shockers Basketball Club at Isaac's Gymnasium in Nassau.

Marshall had great performances from a number of newcomers, including Aikens, Chris Ross, Markel Humphrey, and Mark Dorris. Ross, the 6'2 point guard from San Antonio, Texas, scored nine points, dished out nine assists, and grabbed five rebounds in a very impressive effort. Humphrey, a 6'6 swing man, tallied nine points, and Dorris, a 6'2 guard from Cincinnati, added 14 points in 18 minutes of action.

Returnees Joe Miles, Tre Whitted, and Mark Patton also chipped in 13, 11 and 17 points, respectively, in the Herd's winning effort.

"The key to our game tonight was how we handled the press at the end of the game," said Marshall head coach Ron Jirsa. "Chris Ross really did a great job handling the pressure down the stretch in a hard-fought game."

Marshall took the lead early and held on to a ten-point lead for most of the contest. MU blistered the net at a 53.4 clip, and out-rebounded the Schockers 40-27 for the contest. The Herd shot 70.4% from the free-throw line for the contest and also had 14 steals.

MU returns to official practice for the 2005-06 season on Friday, October 14th, at 7 p.m.
