Marshall Holds Off UCF, 73-69

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Orlando native Joe Aikens scored 10 of his 17 points in the second half to lead four Marshall scorers in double figures as his team defeated UCF 73-69, Wednesday.
Adam Gill's slam dunk with 2:37 brought UCF within 67-64, but a pair of key turnovers in the final two minutes doomed the Knights. Marshall (7-6) pushed its lead to 70-64 on a pair of free throws by Chris Ross with 1:07 left.
A three-pointer a pair of free throws by Justin Rose allowed UCF to close within three points with four seconds remaining, but Mark Dorris sealed the Thundering Herd victory with a free throw with 2.9 seconds left.
Aikens had nine rebounds. Mark Patton had 14 points, Joe Miles 13 and Ross 11 for Marshall. Rose finished with 21 points and seven rebounds to lead UCF, while Josh Peppers had 16 and Anthony Williams scored 15.
It's only the second time UCF has lost at home all season and the first time the Knights (6-7, 0-1) have had a sub-.500 record since the 2000-01 season.
