HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Frank Holmes and Marvett McDonald each scored 22 points to lead UAB to a 76-64 win over Marshall on Saturday night.
Joe Delaney added a career-high 14 points for the Blazers (12-3, 2-0 Conference USA), who extended their winning streak to eight straight.
Travis Aikens scored 16 points to lead Marshall (7-7, 1-1). Joe Miles scored 12 and Markel Humphrey added 10 points.
McDonald scored 19 points in the second half when Marshall keyed on stopping Holmes' inside presence.
The balanced attack led to a 54 percent shooting performance from the floor for the Blazers. Marshall struggled to shoot 40 percent and was outrebounded for the first time in five games.
Miles scored eight straight points for the Thundering Herd in the second half, but UAB followed each basket by getting up the court in transition.
After UAB opened up a double-digit lead following a layup by Holmes, Marshall reeled off seven straight points to cut the lead to 49-46 with 11:26 left.
But Delaney and McDonald hit 12 straight free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
Marshall was held without a field goal over the final 5:24 of the first half. McDonald's 3-pointer at the buzzer capped a 13-2 run that gave the Blazers a 35-26 lead.
Holmes' dunk at the 3:06 mark of the first half broke his previous career-high of 14 points. He ended the half with 17 points.
