Green Defeats White At Thundering Herd Madness

HUNTINGTON - The Marshall men's basketball season began in style with an exciting dunk contest and a preview of what is to come in 2006-07 with a 16 minute scrimmage at Thundering Herd Madness Friday night. The Green defeated the White, 52-45, behind Daryl Merthie's (Sanford, Fla.) 15 points.
Tyler Wilkerson (Lexington, Ky.) defeated Merthie earlier in the night in the 3-point shootout, and senior forward Travis Aikens (Orlando, Fla.) made a behind-the-backboard dunk from the baseline to capture the slam dunk contest.
The scrimmage featured the Herd's new up-tempo style of play, and the newcomer Green team displayed its athletic ability in front of the 2,312 in attendance. Markel Humphrey (Ellenwood, Ga.) also added 13 points for the Green squad. Jesse Oglesby (Lithonia, Ga.) led all rebounders on the night with seven boards.
For the White team, Aikens led all scorers with 19 points. Jean Francois Bro Grebe (Abidjan, Ivory Coast) was the team's leading rebounder with six, while also adding four blocked shots.
The Herd plays its only exhibition game on November 6 against West Virginia State in the Henderson Center.
