HANOVER, N.H. - Marshall University's top doubles team of Lynzee Kever and Kellie Schmitt won their only doubles match of the day at the ITA East Regional on Sunday. The pair defeated Pittsburgh's Kristy Borza and Leah Friedman 8-5, to propel the duo into the quarterfinals.
In singles play Schmitt captured a pair of wins over Borza (Pittsburgh) 6-1, 7-5, and Lindsey Pereira of Virginia, 6-0, 6-3. The two wins put Schmitt in the single elimination tournament's final 16 of the 128 entrants.
Also in singles Kever won her first match against Cornell's Nisha Suda, 6-0, 6-2. However, in the senior's second match she lost a hard-fought match to Buffalo's Andrea Noveaceanu, 7-6 (3), 6-2.
Kever and Schmitt will back in action on Monday in doubles and Schmitt will attempt to continue in singles.
