MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis' Kevin Walsh recorded a hat trick in the second half to break a scoreless tie and propel the Tigers to a 3-0 victory Wednesday over Marshall in men's soccer action at Mike Rose Soccer Complex in Memphis, Tenn.
The teams played over 65 minutes of scoreless play before Walsh went off in the final 25 minutes. He started his scoring barrage at the 66:40 mark as he took a pass from Jared Britcher and ripped a shot from 30 yards out to beat Marshall goalkeeper Brad Kennedy (Jr., Lewisburg, W.Va.).
Walsh added a goal in the 78th minute on an assist from Wade Wonderlin, and the duo teamed up again in the 89th minute to finish Walsh's hat trick. The trio of goals gave Walsh 10 this season - third-best in Conference USA.
Marshall (4-8-2, 1-4-1 C-USA) was paced by Karim Boukhemis (Sr., Huntington, W.Va.), who had a strong offensive game with seven shots, including four on goal. Both numbers represent individual highs for a Thundering Herd player this season.
Both teams recorded 13 shots, while the Tigers (10-6, 3-4) had a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal. Memphis goalkeeper Michael Goodlett earned the shutout, while Kennedy stopped six shots in goal for Marshall.
